Minnie the Cat Came Home With Us

We didn't have a name for her at the time. We were on our way to dinner by the river when we spotted a cute tiny cat on the walkway. A very nice lady was petting her. The cat was young. We assumed she was feral and roaming the area. The nice lady explained to us that the cat had only been there for a week and she had been dumped there as she was behaving as a house cat. We estimated around 6 to 8 months old. We thought it was sad that she had been dumped. Then we went to dinner. When we came outside another nice lady was with her. The kitty came and sat on my shoe. The lady explained that she needed a foster home and that it was very cold outside and the kitty did not have a winter coat. So we made an executive decision to bring her home with us. When we got her home, she wearily came out of the carrier that the nice lady and lent to us. The cat was a bit confused as she didn't know who we were. When I pet her I noticed how skinny and bony she was. We gave her some cat food that we had picked up on the way home. She seemed tired.

I picked her up and put her on the couch. She sat on the couch and went to sleep. It was clear that she was happy to be in a warm cozy place. She was so tired. She needed rest.

I was worried about her though. I set up a litter box for her in the bathroom but I wasn't sure if she would use it or not. I slept on the couch because I was worried about her. When I woke up in the night I saw her standing on my kitchen counter. I got up and pulled her down and she jumped on the chair in the living room area and went back to sleep.

In the morning she used the litter box. Good kitty. But she was a little bit scared of us. I tried to take her back to the couch but she didn't want to sit there. She then jumped way up on the kitchen cabinets.
She was in a strange new place and wasn't sure about us right away.

I was a bit worried about her being way up there so I encouraged her to hang out a little closer to the ground

Not that much closer but a little closer. She picked a spot on top of the refrigerator. I thought that was a nice compromise.

More to come.
